Bandits complete perfect pre-season, beat Dragons 2-0

Sep 9, 2018 | 12:21 PM

BROOKS, AB – Simon Boyko (Mississauga, ON) scored the game-winner late in the third period, and Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) posted his second straight shutout, as the Brooks Bandits beat the Drumheller Dragons 2-0 at the Centennial Regional Arena on Saturday night.

The win gave the Bandits a perfect 6-0 record in the 2018 pre-season, as they prepare for their regular season opener this coming Friday in Drumheller, again against the Dragons.

Despite outshooting the Dragons 14-2 in the first period and 12-8 in the second, Dragon goaltender Hunter Virostek kept his team in it, including after a five-minute penalty in the first period in which a Dragon was ejected for a one-man fight against Luke Bast (Red Deer, AB).

Boyko’s game-winner came on a long shot from the high slot that floated by Virostek through a screen to give Brooks the late advantage. Nathan Plessis (Salmon Arm, B.C.) then scored from the red line in the final minute on an empty net to notch the 2-0 final score.

The Bandits outshot the Dragons 41-21 in the game, with Charleson making 21 saves in the shutout win.

Brooks opens its regular season schedule with a Friday night game in Drumheller and Sunday afternoon game in Calgary against the Canucks before returning to the CRA for the Western Financial Home Opener on Friday, September 21st at 7:00 PM, again hosting the Dragons.
