Canada falls to Australia in World Cup water polo quarterfinals
SURGUT, Russia — Canada is out of title contention at the FINA Women’s Water Polo World Cup.
Australia beat Canada 9-6 in a quarterfinal on Friday.
Krystina Alogbo of Montreal led Canada with two goals. Kelly McKee, Monika Eggens, Elyse Lemay-Lavoie and Hayley McKelvey added singles.
“This is not the result we were hoping for, but we are using it as a learning tool for our future,” Canadian player Emma Wright said. “We are building our team and system for next year’s qualifications. We are grateful for every chance we get to play a top team like Australia. It is important for us to come together for the rest of the tournament and build on this next year.”
