MEDICINE HAT, AB – If the opening round of the 2018 Southeastern Open is any indication of Becky Martin’s upcoming college season, then the Medicine Hat Rattlers should be excited.

Martin shot an opening round 66 on Saturday at Connaught Golf Club, leading all competitors at seven under on the day.

The defending Southeastern Open champion sits a comfortable 11 shots ahead of Pat Hall for top spot in the ladies division, with Lauren Koenig one shot behind Hall for second place.

It’s a two horse race in the men’s championship flight with Ryan Werre and defending champion Dillon Batsel both shooting a three-over, 75 on Friday.

Corey Eakins, Jay Mohr, and Joel Harker are log jammed behind Werre and Batsel at seven over par, while Warren Gnam and Adam Antkowiak are both tied at eight over.

Leading the senior championship flight is Ken Withers who was a four-over, 77 to open the three-day tournament.

Just behind Withers are Gary Kavanaugh and Kelly Risling at six-over par, while Dave Reinheller occupies third place at seven-over.

Second round action continues on Sunday at Connaught, with a 10:00 am shotgun start planned for the final round of play on Monday.
