LETHBRIDGE – A 28-year-old Lethbridge woman charged in connection with an alleged home invasion and assault on her 87-year-old grandfather has been released on bail.

Stacey Carlson was released from custody Thursday morning, Aug. 16, on $2,500 no cash bail (meaning she will only have to pay if she breaches her release conditions). In the release conditions set out by Judge Derek Redman, Carlson must report to the Lethbridge Police Service once a week and she cannot consume any drugs or alcohol unless prescribed by a medical professional. She is also barred from entering the municipality of Taber, unless she is passing through on Highway 3 or for court appearances.

The matter was then adjourned to Sept. 4 in Taber Provincial Court.

Carlson was arrested along with 22-year-old Heinrich Froese – who remains in custody – and both face charges of break/enter commit robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.

According to Taber Police, they were called to a home along the 5800 block of 52 Street in Taber around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11. They say an 87-year-old man found at the scene had been beaten and robbed of money, and that he was transported to the Taber hospital and later the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

While there is currently no update on the victim’s status, police did note through a social media post on July 13, that they expected he would be released from hospital soon.
