MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Conservatory of Music and Dance at Medicine Hat College has partnered with Alberta Ballet and Alberta Ballet School, to offer master classes to young dancers in the city.

The classes took place Monday and Tuesday at the Clutural Centre on the College campus.

A junior group of dancers age 9 to 12 and a senior group 13 and up, had the chance to work with a ballet instructor to hone their skills and techniques.

It’s the first time Alberta Ballet has partnered with the College to bring in these types of classes.

Taryn Klassen, the head of Junior School with Alberta Ballet School, said the partnership gives dancers outside of major centres easy access to more professional training.

“For us to be able to bring that to them is such a gift,” said Klassen. “At Alberta Ballet and Alberta Ballet School, we do really strive to be a province-wide company and school.”

Klassen says she hopes this will be the first of many classes for ballet dancers here in Medicine Hat.
