Canadian golfer Jaclyn Lee wins opening match at U.S. women’s amateur

KINGSTON, Tenn. — Canada’s Jaclyn Lee has advanced to the round of 32 at the U.S. women’s amateur golf championship.

The Calgary golfer, who tied for fourth in the 36-hole stroke play event to qualify for the 64-player match play competition, won four of the last five holes to record a 1-up victory over Kylie Raines of Dublin, Ohio on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Lee is enjoying a strong year, having advanced to the semifinal at the British amateur and tying for 35th at the Meijer LPGA Classic. She sits 26th in the world women’s amateur rankings.

Hannah Lee of Surrey, B.C., the only other Canadian to make match play at the U.S. amateur, lost 5 and 3 to Ya Chun Chang of Chinese Taipei.
