MEDICINE HAT, AB – Carson Johnson has been a staple of the Medicine Hat Mavericks infield all summer and on Monday earned some praise from the WMBL.

The shortstop was named an honourable mention for WMBL Player of the Week after helping Medicine Hat to a first round series victory over the Lethbridge Bulls.

In four games with the Mavericks against Lethbridge, the Springdale, Arkansas product went 8-for-18 at the plate with four runs and eight RBIs.

Johnson came through in the clutch for Medicine Hat in their first round series, with three of his four hits registering as doubles.

A force at the plate all season, Johnson led all WMBL players in the regular season with 60 runs and had the fifth-most hits in the league with 62.

Johnson and the Mavericks are back in action on Monday night, opening their WMBL West Final series against the Edmonton Prospects.

Alex Dafoe will get the call for his second Game 1 of the playoffs after pitching a six-inning gem to open up Medicine Hat’s previous series against the Bulls.

First pitch at Athletic Park is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Monday.
