MEDICINE HAT, AB – One of the toughest customers on the Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs will not be returning to the ‘Gas City’ this fall.

On Twitter, the Cubs announced they have released the rights to 1999-born forward Kaidin Hodgson so that he can pursue a chance to play junior ‘A’ with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Cochrane Crunch.

Playing his rookie season with the Cubs last year, the Redcliff native racked up eight goals and 13 points in 27 games with Medicine Hat.

Hodgson also added a goal and three points in Medicine Hat’s first round series against the Cochrane Generals

But it was his physical play that drew the attention of the Crunch, as Hodgson finished sixth in the HJHL with 155 penalty minutes and had the most PIMs out of any 1999-born player in the league.

However, another Cubs forward will be back in the blue and white as the team also announced Mackenzie Fritzler will be return for his third season with the team.

Enjoying a breakout 2017-18 campaign with Medicine Hat, Fritzler netted 11 goals and 15 points in 35 games with his hometown club.

One of a handful of Cubs players with two seasons of HJHL experience already under their belt, the 19-year-old has played in 68 career games with Medicine Hat.

The Cubs will hold their main training camp at the Kinplex from September 7 to 9, with their first pre-season game coming on September 14 against the expansion Lomond Lakers.
