Local businesses dealing with vehicle theft

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Some local businesses have turned to social media to ask for the public’s help in locating stolen property.

All of the break-ins have one thing in common; they all deal with vehicles.

Davis Buick GMC posted surveillance photos on their Facebook page showing two suspected thieves.

The photos were taken form security cameras in their parking lot, and they are offering a reward for any information.

Three thousand dollars worth of tools and other items were taken.

The dealership isn’t the only local business targeted recently.

Little Buddha’s garage in Redcliff also had a truck stolen from their lot Wednesday morning.

Staff Sergeant Sean Maxwell, Redcliff RCMP, says they can’t connect the crimes together yet.

“That’s a lot of guesswork right now. I mean we certainly work hand-in-hand with Medicine Hat Police Service,” said Maxwell. “If there’s something that we feel between our police services, there’s something we can investigate together and work on, we’ll certainly deal with that as we get it, but you know it’s

hard to make comparisons.”

Thieves gained access to the truck by cutting a hole in the company’s fence.

Melissa Kincaid, administrative assistant at Little Buddha’s Garage, says the truck has been recovered, but the thefts are frustrating as it’s the third break-in the company has dealt with in the past year.

“We always have so many vehicles here, lots of big Dodge diesels here which are usually a big target,” said Kincaid. “The last time was some exhaust was stolen out of our yard. Not even a vehicle but exhaust, because you can get quite a bit of money for exhaust.”

Thieves also targeted a residential property in Redcliff as a home was broken into, and six brand new appliances were taken.

Some residents have expressed concerns on social media about the amount of patrols police do in town but the RCMP says officers try to cover as much ground as they can.

“We get out to places quite regularly, and again we do encourage people to make sure they’re securing all their valuables as best they possibly can and call us,” says Maxwell. “We do get lots of calls on a regular basis. We go out there and look at them and confirm whats going on.”

Maxwell encourages residents to call the station or crime stoppers if they’ve seen anything.

There is still no word on whether the items from the dealership have been located.
