City to close Division Avenue at 8th Street Northeast next week for repairs

Aug 2, 2018 | 11:19 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat will be closing the intersection of Division Avenue and 8th Street Northeast next week.

The closure, which starts on Tuesday, is part of a water and sanitary main replacement project on 8th Street Northeast, and requires the replacement of a sanitary manhole. Due to the nature of the work, traffic needs to be diverted to meet safety requirements.

Businesses on 8th Street Northwest can still be accessed by following a detour from 7th Street Northwest to Tweed Avenue. Drivers will still be able to access 8th Street northeast and Division Avenue. The city has released a map showing where drivers can access the streets. Traffic accommodations will also be in place.

Crews are currently completing work at the 8th Street and Second Avenue Northeast intersection near Monsignor McCoy High School, which the city says will be finished before the school year begins.

Once crews finish the work in the Division Avenue Intersection, water and sanitary main replacement will continue along 8th Street between the Division Avenue and Second Avenue Northeast Intersections. Work will be completed in one block phases.
