MEDICINE HAT, AB — It’s Kiddies Day at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede.

Families visited Pioneer Village, and allowed the younger generation to let loose with a pony hop race, bouncy castles and even a petting zoo.

Parents say their kids enjoy every second of it.

“I bring my children here every year, they love it.  They love all the free games, and the bouncy castle, the face painting, everything that goes on here,” said Pam Palmer.

“My five year old daughter Hailey loves coming to the stampede every year.  She’s been coming since she’s been a baby,” said Amber Hepfner.

The kids got a chance to run around, and try a few new and exciting things.

Of course. the rides are one of the biggest attractions.

The Stampede has been around for over 100 years, and used to feature a kids parade as well.

With the parade no longer around, Jim MacArthur, general manager of the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede, says they are focused on expanding the attractions at Pioneer Village, giving younger generations a taste of the past.

“We’ve got our new patio roof area over there so there’s lots of shade for families, and I think the other thing it does is it really features the beauty and coolness of Pioneer Village,” said MacArthur.

Parents that grew up in Medicine Hat now have the opportunity to share the Stampede experience with their kids.

They say there’s definitely been some changes since they were young.

“Well the first time that I came to stampede there was actual horses in the merry-go-round,” said Palmer. “There isn’t anymore.”

“They have more of a variety of things for the kids like the pony rides or horse rides, and the entertainment that they have,” said Jcqueline Aasman-Fisnk.

While the Stampede evolves and changes every year there’s one thing that remains constant for the families who come back time and time again.

“Spending time with my family,” said a young girl.
