Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Rodeo Results: Day 1

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The first day of the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Rodeo is in the books, and several performers have set scores that could be hard to beat over the next two days of competition.

Ty Taypotat of Regina is the current leader in the bareback riding portion, scoring 87.5 points. Taypotat is currently ranked in the top 5 in bareback riders on the pro tour, and holds the number one spot in Alberta.

Ponoka’s Chance Butterfield, who tied for third place at last year’s Stampede, is currently leading in the steer wrestling event with a time of 4.3 seconds.

Lane Watt is currently in the lead in the saddle bronc, finishing with 82 points.

In team roping, Logan Bird and Stacy Cornet set the mark with 6.4 seconds, finishing just slightly ahead of Cody Atkinson and Sam McKennin, who finished in 6.7 seconds. Blair Burk’s time of 8.2 seconds gave him the lead in tie down roping.

In barrel racing, Tillar Murray from Fort Worth, Texas, set the time to beat. Murray completed the course in 17.575 seconds, and was listed as racing in the slack performance Thursday morning, according to the official draw.

Finally, JB Moen of Elrose, Saskatchewan holds the top spot in bull riding with 84.5 points. Moen finished half a point ahead of Cody Coverchuk.

The next performance is tonight at 8 p.m. at the Stampede Grandstand
