Stampede Rodeo draw includes several locals

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association has released the draw for the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Rodeo this week, and several names from the region will be competing for cash this week.

Maple Creek’s Jared Parsonage, currently ranked first among bull riders in the CPRA, will be returning to Medicine Hat this week. Parsonage is currently pencilled in to ride during the Saturday afternoon performance.

Other competitors from Maple Creek taking part in the rodeo include bareback rider Wyatt Maines and team roper Tanner Jones. Maines is scheduled to ride Friday night in Medicine Hat, while Jones is partnered with Bow Island’s Taylor Wudrich, and are competing in the slack performance Thursday morning (Parsonage is also taking part in the slack performance, with Braidy Davies of Seven Persons).

Several names from Medicine Hat are also slated to compete this week, including tie down roper Tyler Popescul (Friday), barrel racers Chelsey Carlier and Cora Wutch (slack performance Thursday morning) and tie down ropers Trent Tunke and Kevin Schreiner (Thursday). Tunke is partnered with Trey Gallais, while Schreiner, who was victorious at this year’s Spring Rodeo, is partnered with Tee McLeod.

Brooks barrel racer Lynette Brodoway, who won last year’s Stampede, will compete in the slack performance Thursday morning, while team roper Devin Wigemyr aims to win with Vulcan’s Roland McFadden on Saturday.

Irvine’s Dalton Kraft and Cypress County’s Jared Pancoast are also listed as competing in Thursday’s slack performance for team roping.

In addition to the local competitors, other CPRA ranked competitors are listed on this year’s draw. Zeke Thurston, currently ranked first in saddle bronc riding, is scheduled to ride on Friday. Richmond Champion, ranked first in bareback riding, also rides on Saturday, along with Jake Vold, who is ranked second. Third place bareback rider Ty Taypotat is scheduled to ride on Thursday.

Shane Hanchey, ranked second in tie down roping, competes on Friday, alongside third ranked Clayton Smith.

Scott Guenther, the top-ranked steer wrestler in the CPRA, is also in Medicine Hat on Friday, along with second-ranked Stephen Culling.
