BUTTE, MT – Couldn’t ask for a much better start to the weekend for Medicine Hat’s two American Legion clubs in Montana this weekend to close out the regular season.

The Medicine Hat ‘AA’ Moose Monarchs earned a pair of victories over the Butte Miners on Friday to run their win streak to three games.

In the opener, the Monarchs rallied from a 4-1 deficit to score four runs in the sixth inning to earn a 7-4 victory.

Jack Suhai only had one hit in the victory for Medicine Hat but drove in three runs in the win, while Ethan Loran and Ethan Boutkan had the team’s other RBIs.

Boutkan was solid on the bump for the Monarchs with a complete seven-inning effort, striking out six batters while allowing just three earned runs.

It was all offence in the rematch for Medicine Hat, as they connected with 12 hits and put up 14 runs on the Miners to sweep the series with a 14-6 win.

Medicine Hat took control of the game in the second inning thanks to a Zach Stark home run, cashing in three runs for the Monarchs.

He finished his evening 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs and three runs, while Suhai had a pair of RBIs as well.

The Monarchs split pitching duties between Ashtyn Street, Wyatt Bergen and Dylan Koenig, with Bergen earning the win with a three-inning effort.

Medicine Hat winds up the regular season in a key series against the Billings Scarlets on Saturday, trying to fend off the Great Falls Chargers for the final playoff spot ahead of the Montana State Championship.

As for the Medicine Hat ‘A’ K of C Knights, they kicked off their final weekend of the regular season in Great Falls to face the ‘A’ Chargers.

The first game on Friday proved to be a rough one for the Knights, suffering a 13-2 loss in a match that lasted just five innings.

Great Falls scored five runs in the second inning and eight runs in the fourth, shelling Knights pitcher Brandon Hauck for 13 runs.

Medicine Hat’s only two runs came in the second and third innings, as Connor Drever and Reese Whelen drove in runs in the loss.

That defeat seemed to spark the Medicine Hat club however, as they exploded for eight runs in the second inning of the rematch and stormed to an 18-7 victory over Great Falls.

Ten different Knights players drove in runs in the second meeting, with Drever and Carter Krauss leading the pack with three RBIs each.

Ayden Matycio gave up only four earned runs over his five innings on the mound Friday night, striking out five Great Falls batters.

Medicine Hat now heads to Conrad, Montana for a double-header against the Tri County Cardinals on Saturday to finish the regular season.

Despite sitting second-last in their division with a 6-19 record, the Knights are guaranteed a spot in the North District Class ‘A’ Tournament next weekend.
