MEDICINE HAT, AB — Dawson Murschell is looking forward to his summer vacation following his first year as a professional darts player.

Murschell, 23, is back in Medicine Hat for the summer after spending most of the year in England with the Professional Darts Corporation.

“The past six months have been pretty crazy, living in England, stuff like that,” Murschell told CHAT News Today earlier this week. “It’s just all been a whirlwind, I’m happy to have a little break.”

In January, Murschell earned his professional tour card and competed at events around the world.

He finished the season with an appearance in the quarter-finals at the U.S. Darts Masters, held in Las Vegas earlier this month.

“I got to take down Gerwyn Price, which was good, because a year ago in the quarter-finals, he beat me out of that one,” he said. “It was good to get a little revenge there. Gerwyn is a great player.”

Murschell says he is learning more about his game and working to make improvements after each tournament.

“A lot of people say that your first year on the tour, it’s just kind of a learning year,” he said, noting he is currently working with Steve Bunting, a darts player ranked 22nd in the world according to PDC. “You’re just kind of taking in what you can, and learning what you can from the pros.”

He adds there are a lot of other things he’s learning about being a professional outside of the sport.

“I didn’t think the amount of travel and the amount of tournaments played would weigh on me as much as it has,” he said. “Every weekend, you’ve got to be up and ready to go, and I think that’s the hardest part sometimes.”

When the summer ends, Murschell hits the road again, looking to qualify for the PDC World Championship in December.
