Five candidates running for council seat in Brooks byelection

BROOKS, AB — A total of five candidates will be seeking one city council seat when the City of Brooks hosts a byelection next month.

The official list of candidates was released Wednesday afternoon.

Cathy Corbett-Schock, Brian Curtis, Joel Goodnough, Reg Radke and Al Zimmer are all vying for a seat on city council.

Corbett-Schock, Curtis and Radke were previously on the ballot in the 2017 municipal election.

The byelection comes after Michael Glynn Macdonald announce he was stepping down for personal reasons in June.

An all candidates forum will take place on August 8 at the Heritage Inn and Convention Center starting at 7 p.m.

The city will have advance votes on August 11 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The byelection will take place on August 16 in the Cenovus Flex Hall at the JBS Canada Centre from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. The city has also set up institutional voting stations for residents of the Brooks Health Centre Extended Care, Newbrook Lodge, Orchard Manor, Pioneer Villa Courts and Sunrise Gardens to cast their ballots.
