Three in custody following pursuit near Bassano

BASSANO, AB – RCMP in Bassano arrested three people following a pursuit through rural highways and farmers’ fields on Tuesday morning.

According to a release, officers received a call from an alarm at a business in Hussar at approximately 4:30 a.m. When they arrived at the building, officers determined a break and enter had occurred, and suspects allegedly removed the ATM from the building.

Three hours later, officers received a call of an attempt theft at a rural property north of Bassano, where the victim was following the suspects. While following the vehicle, one suspect allegedly leaned out of the moving vehicle and pointed a long gun at the victim. The victim stopped following, and was not injured.

RCMP located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit, which ran through the rural area near Bassano and ended when the suspect’s vehicle was stuck in a field.

RCMP officers from Drumheller, Brooks and Gleichen, along with the Calgary Police Service helicopter assisted in arrested an adult man and an adult woman at the scene. A third suspect, an adult male, fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by an RCMP police dog.

All three suspects, who have not yet been named, remain in custody, and charges are pending.
