BROOKS, AB — Jared Libke racked up a season-high nine strikeouts, helping the Medicine Hat Mavericks open a three-game road trip with a 6-1 victory over the Brooks Bombers on Monday night.

The Saskatoon product, making his seventh start of 2018, lasted seven innings and allowed just three hits before Sean Cruz sealed off the victory by throwing a pair of shutout frames.

Colton Wright, slotted in the three-hole, led the Mavericks with two RBI, while Carson Johnson and Zack Gray each collected a pair of runs.

With the victory, Medicine Hat has locked up home-field advantage for the opening round of the playoffs. They’re also the first team in the WMBL to reach 30 victories, sporting a record of 30-6, and hold a 5.5 game lead over Okotoks for first place in the Western Division.

Brooks, meanwhile, suffered it’s sixth straight loss to fall to 10-26 in 2018. They’re four games back of Lethbridge for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division, making up last place.

Conner Morro stomped in the only run of the evening for the home team, and also went 1/4 at the dish.

Medicine Hat now shifts it’s attention to a two-game series in Edmonton on Wednesday and Thursday before hosting the Bombers at Athletic Park on Friday.
