LETHBRIDGE —  Exactly a week after a 14 year old boy drowned in the Oldman River, his body had been recovered.

Around 7:30 pm on Friday, July 13, two kayakers located a body in the Oldman River just north of the city limits, which that matched the description of the missing teen.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services, the Coalhurst Fire Department and the RCMP assisted with the recovery.

The boy went missing on Friday, July 6, after he was swept away in the current as he tried to cross the river with a friend.

Over the past week, divers with the Lethbridge Fire Water Rescue team targeted several locations in the river at Alexander Wilderness Park, in their effort to recover the body. Last Sunday, amd through the week, the dive team used sonar to scan the river bottom based on information from a witness.

The boy’s body will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary to confirm his identity and the police investigation will remain active pending the results of an autopsy.

There is no evidence to suggest foul play.

The Alexander Wilderness Park has now re-opened to the public.
