Trial date set for man charged following Flats house fire

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man charged last fall after a woman was injured in a house fire in the Flats will be going to trial next year.

Chad Stadnicki’s case appeared briefly in the Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench Friday morning, where a judge only trial was set for March 18, 2019.

Stadnicki, 41, was arrested and charged following a fire at a home in the 1100 block of Bridge Street Southeast on October 27th.

According to police, a woman was inside the home at the time of the fire, and was able to escape.

The woman, 32, suffered significant burns to her upper body, including her face and neck. She was transported to Calgary hospital for treatment.

Stadnicki was charged with aggravated assault and arson in connection with the incident.

The trial is scheduled to last five days.
