SUNDRE, AB — Ryan Hodgins is a provincial golf champion.

The 16-year-old captured the Alberta Juvenile Boys Championship by two strokes Friday afternoon at the Sundre Golf Club, carding a four-round total of 293 (+5). The Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club product finished two shots clear of Pincher Creek’s Ethan Choi.

Overall, Hodgins finished fourth place among all of Alberta’s top junior boys golfers. Chandler McDowell capped an impressive week of play with a final round 66 to win the Alberta Boys Junior Championship by 11 strokes over Ty Steinbring.

By placing in the top 16, Hodgins easily earns a spot at the Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship, which will be played at MHGCC at the end of July and early August. The youngster, who’s already won two Maple Leaf Tour events this season, solidified his spot at nationals last month by winning the local qualifier handily.
