INTERVIEW: Coach Murphy explains Mavs resilience, refusal to lose

MEDICINE HAT, AB — After two days of rest and recovery, expect the Medicine Hat Mavericks to come out swinging Friday night at Athletic Park.

That’s even more of a guarantee when you see the team they’re up against.

The Edmonton Prospects are Hat-bound for a two-game series this weekend — the provincial capitals first trip to the Gas City since trouncing the Mavs in the West Division Final last August.

Edmonton sits third in the West, boasting a mediocre 12-16 record which pales in comparison to the Mavericks streak-infused 22-3 mark. Those 22 victories are highlighted by separate 10 and (a current) 12-game win streak.

However, if history plays a factor Friday, the Mavericks may meet their match. Edmonton has won each of the last four meetings over Medicine Hat, which includes handing the Red and White their most recent loss on June 18th.

Despite the Mavericks blemished past against the defending West Division Champions, head coach Andrew Murphy is keeping a clear head as game time approaches.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports caught up with the skipper this week to learn more about the Mavs refusal to lose games, how they’ve kept their 12-game win streak alive, and how the remaining three weeks of regular season play shape up.
