Medicine Hat unemployment rate falls in June
Medicine Hat, AB – The unemployment rate for the Medicine Hat dropped slightly in June. Stats Canada says the rate last month was 5 per cent.
It had been 5.1 per cent in May, but the agency always cautions against month to month comparisons due to a small sample size. A year ago, the city unemployment rate was 4.5 per cent.
The numbers were much the same for the Medicine Hat – Lethbridge region.
It was 4.9 per cent last month. That compares to 5.2 per cent in May. A year ago the rate was 4.8 per cent.
Alberta’s unemployment rate in June went up 3-10ths of a point to 6.5 per cent.
Canada’s rate was up 2 tenths of a point to 6 per cent.
Almost 32 thousand new jobs were created in June, but the rate went up because more people entered the labour force.
