LETHBRIDGE β€” Alberta Health Services says 55 people in the South Zone may have been exposed to tuberculosis.

The agency has sent a letter out to the people affected, advising them about screening and treatment for the lung infection.

The South Zone includes Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, among other communities.

AHS says a person working at a food processing plant tested positive for the respiratory infection. The location of the plant has not been disclosed β€œto protect patient confidentiality,” according to the release.

AHS says transmission of the infection is not related to food processed at the plant, and there is also no reason to believe someone could become infected from consuming food prepared at the facility.

There is no risk to the general public, and the exposures were contained.
