MEDICINE HAT, AB — There will be a mixture of the new and the familliar at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede later this month.

The organization announced everything attendees can expect at the 131st edition of the event on Tuesday, including free stage entertainment, pancake breakfast specials and what’s new on the grounds.

“We’re very excited,” said Jim MacArthur, Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede General Manager. “I think it’s an indication when you see the chair people getting involved and enthusiastic as they are right now.”

The Stampede will be bringing in several new acts for free entertainment this year, including Cirque Zuma Zuma, an African acrobatic troupe based in Las Vegas, and Dan the One Man Band from Calgary. Other new free shows include AC Jones, Room to Dance, and magician James Jordan.

Two popular acts which have taken the stage in previous years are returning. Hypnotist Terrance B. And the Spruce Meadows Prairie Dogs will once again wow audiences at the Stampede.

MacArthur says it’s important for the Stampede to balance new acts with acts that have proven popular.

“We do have to keep certain standbys,” he said. “The hypnotist is always a favourite, and i don’t know if we could have a fair without the hypnotist or the Spruce Meadows Prairie Dogs. They’re such favourites with fans. But, there’s always a bit of variety to it, and this year will be no exception.”

The Stampede will also feature the Visual Arts show in the Cypress Centre lobby, the Better Living and Horticulture in the Cypress Centre auditorium, Country in the City at the Kinplex, a petting zoo and a trade show with more than 100 vendors.

New this year to the Stampede are mobile charging stations sponsored by Tourism Medicine Hat and the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association. The stations will be located around the grounds.

Medicine Hat Fire Chief Brian Stauth and Cypress County Fire Chief Kelly Meyer are serving as honorary parade marshals during the event on July 26.

Residents looking to get their fill of pancakes will have several opportunities during the week. The first pancake breakfast takes place July 21 at Davis Buick GMC, with other breakfasts scheduled for Medicine Hat College (July 24), Hillcrest Church (July 24), The Medicine Hat Lodge (July 25), the Medicine Hat Public Library (July 26) and the 13th Avenue South Country Co-op (July 27).
