Electricity and natural gas rates rise in July

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat residents will be paying more for natural gas in July, while the city’s electricity price will be capped for the second time this year.

The natural gas rate has been set at $2.354 per gigajoule, up from $1.567 per gigajoule last month.

Residential, farm and small and medium commercial customers will be paying 6.8 cents per kilowatt hour, , up from 5.795 cents in June. The city signed an agreement with Alberta to cap electricity prices at 6.8 cents per kilowatt hour.

The city first capped electricity prices in April.
