Bell to run province’s SuperNet program

EDMONTON — The provincial government has finalized a contract with Bell to ensure the SuperNet program keeps running.
SuperNet, a broadband network which helps connect rural and urban communities in the province, has been around since 2001. It provides services for more than 3,300 public sector, municipal and Indigenous buildings in 429 communities in the province.
“We know that the internet is not a luxury – it’s an essential service for families and key to building a modern, diverse economy,” said Brain Malkinson, Minister of Service Alberta, in a news release. “This new SuperNet contract ensures that Albertans will continue to have access to internet services in their schools, hospitals, libraries and public services. It also means that local internet service providers are able to keep us connected to the services we need.”
The SuperNet connects schools, hospitals, colleges, universities, libraries and municipal offices to the broadband network.
