Irvine man sentenced to 10 months in jail on firearms charges

MEDICINE HAT, AB — An Irvine man who pleaded guilty to several firearms-related charges was sentenced in Medicine Hat provincial court on Tuesday.

Denver Ailsby received a 10 month jail sentence and a $200 fine on two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and one count each of careless storage of a firearm and  possession of a prohibited firearm, charges he pleaded guilty to in May. The remaining charges he was facing were withdrawn.

Ailsby, along with Brandalyn Brandham, were arrested in April 2017 following an investigation by Redcliff RCMP and the Medicine Hat Police Service. According to a news release at the time of the arrest, a total of 10 firearms were seized, along with prohibited magazines and boxes of ammunition.

Brandham pleaded guilty in September 2017 to one charge of unsafe storage of a firearm, and received a nine month conditional sentence.

In addition to the jail sentence, Ailsby was ordered to pay a $200 surcharge. He also received a lifetime firearms prohibition, according to Court Check.
