Canadian international midfielder Junior Hoilett has signed a new three-year deal with Cardiff City.

The 28-year-old from Brampton, Ont., was voted Cardiff’s player of the season by his teammates at the end of Cardiff’s promotion-winning season in 2017-18. Hoilett had 11 goals in 50 league and Cup appearances last season, leading the club in both categories

“It feels amazing to finally sign the new deal,” Hoilett told the club website. “It was always going to happen though. I want to continue my career here and never wanted to go anywhere else. I want to go on and achieve more things in the Premier League with a great group of lads.”

The new contract runs through the summer of 2021.

The former Queens Park Rangers player joined Cardiff in October 2016 on a free transfer.

“Junior had a fantastic season for us last year and I think his new contract is just rewards for that,” said manager Neil Warnock. “I think he’s looking forward to the challenge next season and I’m sure he’ll play a major role in helping us try to stay in the Premier League.”

The speedy Hoilett has become an important part of the Canadian team, with 17 appearances since joining the national team program in September 2015.
