NEAR KIPP – An apparent wrong-way crash on Highway 3 has claimed the life of a 42-year-old man.

Emergency crews were called to the scene approximately 2 km west of the junction of Highway 509 at around 5 p.m. Monday, June 25. Coaldale RCMP said the crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet Impala, and the initial investigation is that the Corolla was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes.

The driver of the Impala, a Standoff man, was pronounced dead while being taken to the hospital in Lethbridge. A 12-year-old girl was also in the car. While described by police as “clearly traumatized,” she had only minor back injuries and was taken to the hospital, along with the driver of the Corolla, a 61-year-old man who also wasn’t seriously hurt.

The crash is still being investigated, and RCMP are asking possible witnesses to come forward. Weather conditions at the time were sunny and warm with clear visibility.
