MEDICINE HAT, AB — It’s officially the dog days of summer and pups of all shapes and sizes had the time of their lives at the 2nd Annual Dogs in the Hat.

The event at Kin Coulee Park had a variety of vendors set up for pet and pet owners.

Things kicked off at 10 a.m. and carried on throughout the day with a police K-9 demo and duck herding demos from Canine Solutions.

There was also a 50-50 style called Poop Bingo that event organizer Elisha Mathis says is a hit.

“It’s a 50-50 draw so everybody buys a rock and they put it in a ring and I’m going to bring my dogs later at the proper time and whoever poops closest, that rock wins, we will measure it out,” said Mathis. “They win will 50 per cent of the money.”

The rest of the proceed will go to Cleo’s Karma Dog Rescue.

It was sunny in the morning but when the weather took a turn for the worse, event organizers Mathis and Ashley Hart had some fun in the rain complete an obstacle course.

They say the event is important to bring Medicine Hat’s dog community together.

“All the vendors like health people here we got all sorts, anything you can think, boarding facilities,” said Hart. “Just to come out and talk to the local businesses and the local clubs and get to know the by-law and the police K-9, what they do and stuff like that.  Just to get a better sense of community, with our dog community”
