Knights hoping to earn first win in conference play

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A week’s worth of practice comes at a good time for the Medicine Hat Knights.

The American Legion baseball club dropped both games to Great Falls last weekend, and are still looking for their first conference win.

“We’ve been competing for the most part, but we have been battling a lot of injuries and stuff, so that’s been a big problem for us,” said head coach Lane Aman.

Aman adds the team is preparing for several players to return to the lineup, which will help the team moving forward.

Despite being winless in conference play, the Knights have performed well at tournaments, including an undefeated run at the Havre Jamboree earlier this month. Aman says their play at tournaments proves the Knights are capable of winning.

“One of those games especially, we faced one of the best pitchers we’ve seen all year, and our guys were just crushing,” said Aman. “There’s been bright spots for sure where we see so much potential in the team, and then we have an off inning and it costs us the game.”

“But, if we can put it all together, I think this team has the potential to give some teams a run late in the year.”

The Knights take on the Havre North Stars Friday night at Athletic Park. The game begins at 5 p.m.

Elks top Monarchs

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs ran into a number of hot bats Wednesday night.

The Lethbridge Elks collected 21 hits over six innings, and defeated the Monarchs 14-4.

The Monarchs are looking to return to the win column Thursday night, hosting the Bozeman Bucks at Athletic Park.
