Mavericks top Giants 5-2

FORT McMURRAY, AB – The Mavericks continued their winning ways against the Fort McMurray Giants Wednesday night.

Anchored by a strong performance on the mound from Jumpei Akanuma, the Mavericks defeated the Giants for the second night in a row, coming away with a 5-2 win at Shell Place.

Akanuma pitched eight innings and struck out four batters. He allowed six hits and two runs.

Louie Canjura recorded a pair of RBIs for the Mavericks, and scored two runs during the game, while Julien Ly, David Salgueiro and David Vilches scored the remaining runs for the Mavericks.  Zack Gray and Carson Johnson each had one RBI during the game.

BJ Minarcin and Liam Rihela batted in the runs for the Giants in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Tyler Moskalyk was credited with the loss on the mound for the Giants. In five innings, he allowed five runs, nine hits, and five errors. Moskalyk struck out one batter.

The Mavericks and Giants meet again on Thursday for the third of four games in Fort McMurray this week. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:35 p.m.
