MEDICINE HAT, AB – Ryan Hodgins will match up against Canada’s best junior golfers in a matter of weeks after booking his ticket to Canadian Junior Nationals over the weekend.

Due to the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club hosting the national event, one local spot was up for grabs between Hodgins, Sam Bratvold, Caleb Kinch, and Nolan Burzminski.

Hodgins shot the lights out with a final round score of 69, besting his opponents by 20 strokes to earn his place among the country’s best.

“It feels great, especially being able to play at my home course here later,” said Hodgins. “It’s going to be awesome.”

It’s been a breakout 2018 season for the 16-year-old, winning two Maple Leaf Junior Championships and booking a spot in his first PGA sanctioned event with the Paradise Canyon Open in Lethbridge.

Hodgins said he’s worked on his swing, which is improving with every round he’s played this year.

“I made some changes with my swing coach in Lethbridge to just make it higher,” he said. “That helps with straightness and consistency, and that’s big.”

Hodgins and the rest of the qualifiers will tee off at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club for the first round of Canadian Junior Nationals on July 30.
