MEDICINE HAT, AB – John Walters, Codey McCurrach, and Cody Ridsdale will race for the Medicine Hat WPCA Championship after the penultimate evening of heats at the Stampede Grounds.

Drivers took to the track on Saturday night for the third time this week, looking to book their place in Sunday’s ‘Dash for Cash’ final race.

Walters won his heat with a time of 1:04.04, but had to settle for 19th place in Saturday’s overall standings.

Despite that finish, Walters still sits in first place in the three-day aggregate standings with a time of 3:09.59 after winning the day money on Thursday and Friday.

After finishing in third place on Friday, McCurrach put together a clean race of 1:03.30 on Saturday to take his heat and move into second spot in the aggregate standings.

Ridsdale crossed the finish line second in his heat on Saturday, but a knocked over barrel from Evan Salmond gave the 31-year-old the win at 1:02.56.

This will also be the first appearance in a WPCA championship final heat for Ridsdale.

Winner of the night money went to Mike Vigen’s outfit, however it was his son Chanse posting a Saturday-best time of 1:01.58 as his father could not drive due to injury.

The final day of chuckwagon action gets underway at the Stampede Grounds at 2:00 pm, with Walters, McCurrach, and Ridsdale all competing in the ‘Dash for Cash.’
