MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man who pleaded guilty to a child pornography and weapon charge last year learned his sentence on Wednesday.

Tyler Falkeisen was sentenced to 16 months in jail on charges of possessing and accessing child pornography, and received a three month sentence, to be served consecutively, on one charge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, according to Court Check.

He pleaded guilty to the charges in November.

Falkeisen was arrested on July 13 following an investigation from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

The investigation began in April after the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited children forwarded a tip about someone in Medicine Hat uploading child pornography.

According to a news release from ALERT, close to 3,000 images of child pornography were found on a number of seized electronic devices. Officers also found a 12-gauge shotgun in the residence.

Following his release from jail, Falkeisen will also be on probation for three years.
