Monarchs hold on for win; Knights lose in walk-off

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs managed to hold off a late comeback on the baseball diamond Wednesday night.

Taking on the Lethbridge Elks, the Monarchs held on for a 4-3 victory at Jeffries Park, with the Elks’ three runs coming in the sixth inning.

The Elks scored their three runs on a Levi Abbott double, which allowed Raleigh Ferby, Ty Penner and Torrin Vasalenak to score.

Braydon Pudwell, Ethan Boutkan and Theryn Berndt each had one hit for the Monarchs.

On the mound, Ashtyn Street earned the win for the Monarchs. In six and two-thirds innings, he allowed seven hits, three runs and struck out two batters. Cavan Kolody earned the save on the mound, striking out the final batter.

The Monarchs return to Lethbridge on Friday, taking part in a tournament hosted by the Elks.

Knights fall in Lethbridge

The Medicine Hat K of C Knights were on the wrong end of a walk-off run Wednesday night in Lethbridge.

Tied in the final inning against the Lethbridge Miners, Skyler Vasalenak singled on a 2-0 count, driving in the winning run and giving the Miners a 9-8 victory.

Kobe Coderre recorded two hits and 2 RBI for the Knights. Teammates Jaden Schwindt and Brandon Hauck also had two hits during the game.

Heydon Harrison took the loss on the mound. In two and two-thirds innings, he allowed four runs, five hits and struck out one batter.

The Knights, who fall to 5-9 on the season, return to action on Saturday, hosting the Great Falls Chargers at Athletic Park. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
