RedHat back to normal operations after fire

MEDICINE HAT, AB — It has been two and a half weeks since the fire at RedHat Co-op and operations are just about back to normal.

Fire crews from Redcliff, Medicine Hat and Cypress County were called in to battle the blaze.

There’s still no word on just how much damage was caused, but general manager Gillian Digman said a cigarette had started a fire in a bail of cardboard nearby.

Restoration crews continue to work on the outside of the building.

Digman said their cucumber crews had their last shift at Big Marble Farms on Monday and are back in house today.

“We’re fully contained in house, we’ve just got to get things a little bit more organized and by the end of the week we’ll just be back to business as normal,” she said.

RedHat was in the middle of hiring more staff but those plans had to be put on hold.

Digman said as operations begin to pick-up, they’re focused again on making sure they have enough bodies to handle the workload.
