MEDICINE HAT – A man charged following a house fire in the Flats last year has waived his preliminary hearing.

Chad Stadnicki, 41, appeared in Medicine Hat provincial court on Tuesday, for the hearing but it was waived. An arraignment has now been scheduled for July 13th.

Stadnicki was arrested on October 27, and charged with aggravated assault and arson in connection with a fire at a home in the 1100 Block of Bridge Street SE.

Police, fire and EMS were called to the residence after a fire broke out just after 5:30 P.M.

First responders found a 32-year-old woman suffering from serious burns to a large portion of her upper body, including her face and neck.

Police say the woman was inside the home at the time of the fire and managed to escape. She was transported to the Medicine Hat Hospital then transferred to a hospital in Calgary for treatment.

Stadnicki had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
