MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat says all electric service has been restored to customers following the wind storm on Saturday, and the focus is now shifting to cleanup.

The last homes, located on the Southeast Hill, had power restored after 11 p.m. on Sunday.

More than 7,000 customers were without electric service, including residents in Crestwood, River Flats, East Glen, downtown, the Southeast Hill, Southview Drive and College Drive. Planned outages took place in the hospital area and Redcliff to isolate problems and allow power to be restored.

Members of the city’s utility crews are working to repair damaged infrastructure. A significant amount of work remains, including pole replacements and line repairs. The public is reminded to stay back fromc rews and give them room to work.

Fallen trees and branches are being cleaned up on a priority basis to maintain public safety. Residents who believe a city-owed tree is on their property and requires attention, call the Parks and Recreation Office at 403-529-8333. City-owner trees are usually located along a boulevard or in a park.

Homeowners are responsible for trees on private property and are also responsible for the removal and clean-up of associated debris. Residents are reminded to not push the debris onto streets and sidewalks, and not to remove a tree that has fallen into a power line. If a tree has fallen into a power line, call the Electric Utility at 403-529-8260.
