MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat is confirming around 250 customers are still without power on Sunday morning after the previous night’s vicious thunderstorm.

Trees were downed all across the city on Saturday evening, knocking down power poles and power to close to 7,000 residents at the storm’s peak.

Utility crews worked until around 4:30 am restoring power in various areas of the city before being sent home to grab some sleep, they’re expected back on the ground around noon on Sunday.

Most of the outages remain in the Southeast Hill and downtown areas, while repairs are expected to take most of Sunday to complete.

Power has been restored to the Medicine Hat College, Southview, Crestwood, and Southwest Hill neighbourhoods, which were among the hardest hit.

Any home or business owners facing severe emergency challenges due to the lack of power are advised to call 911 and relay their situation to the operator.

Residents are still asked to stay 10 metres away from any downed power lines and to give crews the space they need to complete the repairs.
