Medicine Hat–Maple Creek RCMP have charged Connie Oakes with Obstruction of Justice.

The charge is in relation to an investigation that began in December of 2017.

She was arrested on May 5th and is scheduled to appear in court in Regina on Friday June 8th, 2018.

Oakes who is 53, spent time in prison for second degree murder in the death of Casey Armstrong.

The Medicine Hat man was found dead in his home back in 2011.   The Alberta Court of Appeal overturned her conviction in 2016 and ordered a new trial.  The trial never went ahead as the Crown ended up staying the murder charge.

Oakes is now suing the Crown Prosecutor and several members of the Medicine Hat Police Service over her wrongful conviction.   In a statement of claim filed in April, Oakes revealed she is seeking $1 million dollars in damages.   A statement of defence has not been filed.
