MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Sun Devils gave opposing goaltenders sunburns over the weekend for how many times they lit the lamp at the Kinplex.

Coming off an 18-10 victory over the Calgary Sabrecats on Saturday, the Sun Devils torched the Strathmore Venom 24-3 on Sunday to earn their most dominant victory of the season.

Scoring the opening four goals of the game, the Sun Devils netted 10 of the 11 goals scored in the opening period to take a 10-1 stranglehold.

In total, Medicine Hat found the back of the net 42 times over six periods and have now won three straight games.

Head coach Chris Loran said the team has been hungry for the ball and it’s showing through their offensive performance.

“We’ve been doing a lot of taking advantage of opportunities,” said Loran. “So, working the transition, trying to get those fast breaks up the floor.”

Zack Wilson had seven goals and 11 points in the crushing victory, while Aiden McLean had another solid weekend with six goals and 11 points being tacked on to his 2018 stats.

Beating a division rival in Strathmore, the Sun Devils hold an 8-6 record and are starting to create some separation against their southern opponents.

“A division win is nice,” said McLean. “It helps us stay up in the standings and it really just shows every other team in the league that we’re here to make some noise.”

Seeing some of their best results of the season over the last few weeks, Loran said the team’s confidence is the highest it’s been all season.

“Things are falling into place at the right time,” said Loran. “We’re healthy, guys are strong, so that’s all falling into place.”

One game this weekend for the Sun Devils, as it’s a long road trip to British Columbia to take on the Cranbrook Elite on Saturday afternoon.
