MEDICINE HAT, AB — A tentative agreement has been reached between Canadian Pacific Railway and the 3,000 engineer and conductors who have been on the picket lines since last night.

The company announced a tentative four-year agreement with CP conductors and locomotive engineers has been reached with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), the union representing the workers, just before noon on Wednesday.

“This is a positive result for our TCRC employees and their families, the 12,000-strong CP family, our customers and the entire Canadian economy,” said Keith Creel, CP President and CEO, in a news release. “It is especially meaningful to achieve a four-year tentative agreement with our valued locomotive engineers and conductors, providing long-term stability for all parties involved. This is a significant step toward a renewed positive relationship growing forward together serving our customers and the Canadian economy.”

Details of the agreement will be presented to members for ratification. The union represents more than 3,000 workers across Canada, including approximately 300 in Medicine Hat.

“We have had the discussion that needed to take place. This is a solid step in re-establishing a positive business relationship and moving forward,” said Doug Finnson, President TCRC, in a news release.

Workers have been on strike since 8 p.m. Tuesday.

On Tuesday, CP reached an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which represents approximately 300 signal workers across Canada.

Federal mediators assisted with the negotiations.

Operations are expected to resume Thursday morning.
