MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede will be honouring area firefighters during this year’s event.

The Stampede has announced Medicine Hat Fire Chief Brian Stauth and Cypress County Fire Chief Kelly Meyer have been named honoured guests for the 131st annual event this summer.

According to a news release, the Stampede chose Stauth and Meyer to show appreciation to all firefighters in the region for the work they do.

“The challenges faced in 2017 reinforce our confidence in the dedication and skill of all the men and women who serve our communities,” the release states.

Stauth and Meyer will be present in a horse drawn carriage during the Stampede Parade on July 26, and will officially open the rodeo on July 26. Both fire chiefs will also raise the flag at the RCMP Detachment barracks that night, at 7:30 p.m.

The Stampede runs from July 25-28.
