Police seeking applicants for Citizen’s Police Academy

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service is looking for interested residents to take part in the third edition of the Citizen’s Police Academy.

The next series of classes will begin September 12, 2018, and run weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. until November 21.

The classes give members of the community an opportunity to learn more about how the Medicine Hat Police Service functions, and learn about current policing issues and community safety concerns.

The class involves a serious of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on learning, and demonstrations. Topics discussed include specialty teams, community safety initiatives and emerging crime trends.

There is no cost to register or participate. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and successfully pass a security clearance check. Class size is limited to 20 participants, and efforts will be made to ensure a diverse class based on age, gender, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Those who are interested in police-related issues are encouraged to apply, though the program is not intended to train people to become police officers.

Applications are available at the Medicine Hat Police Service, and during the Police Service’s Open House on June 16. The deadline for applications for the fall section is June 16.
