MEDICINE HAT, AB — Southern Alberta’s golfing elite will be out in full force this weekend for the city’s first big event of 2018.

The 63rd annual Victoria Day Classic tees off from the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club bright and early Saturday morning. The 54-hole stroke play event wraps up with the final round on the Holiday Monday.

MHGCC’s head professional Wayne Mattson says more than half the field is made up of golfers from out of town.

Redcliff’s Ryan Werre looks to defend his Men’s Championship title after stringing together an near-perfect three-day performance last year, where he topped runner-up Dillon Batsel by nine-strokes. Werre’s tournament was capped with a 3-under par 69 in his final round.
