Camping spots still available at Cypress Hills

MEDICINE HAT, AB — For many, the May long weekend marks the official start to the camping season.

Staff at Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park say if you’re looking for a last minute camping spot, you may be in luck.

Spots are still available on both the Alberta and Saskatchewan side for campers with tents and RV’s.

Gail Kesslar with the Cypress Hills Destination Area said there have been some cancellations, while some spots were never booked.

She said there are no fire bans currently in place and is hoping everyone enjoys the long weekend.

“Currently we don’t have any fire bans in place on either side. I can’t guarantee how long that lack-of fire ban will last but we are in some ways fortunate that we still, actually, have some snow on the ground in the hills,” she said over the phone from Maple Creek.

Both sides of the park will have an alcohol ban in place for the long weekend, to help make sure everyone stays safe.
