Medicine Hat, AB. – Stats Canada says wages grew at the fastest rate in nearly six years last month, rising 3.6 per cent compared to April of last year.
The economy also created almost 29 thousand full time jobs, while 30 thousand part time jobs were lost in April.
That left the national unemployment rate at 5.8 per cent.
In Medicine Hat, the unemployment rate for April was 6.7 per cent.  It had been 7.5 per cent in March, but Stat’s Canada cautions against month to month comparisons because of the small sample size.   A year ago, the unemployment rate in Medicine Hat was 7.2 per cent.
Alberta’s unemployment rate was up 4 tenths of a point from March, while Saskatchewan saw a half per cent increase in unemployment last month.
