Two new greens at Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club is ready to unveil some new renovations to the course.

Last November, the course closed off the greens on the 9th and 10th hole, tore them up, and completely remodeled them. The greens will be open this weekend, some three weeks after the rest of the course opened for the 2018 season.

Cam Jacques, general manager of the club, says during a previous renovation of the course in the 1980’s, the two holes were not completed.

“It’s been a long time coming, over 30 years, before we had the resources to get this built and have them more consistent with the rest of the greens,” he said.

It took several weeks for the fresh sod to root into the soil. Some scarring remains in place, but it shouldn’t last long. The greens are larger in size, says Jacques, noting several added undulations which offer golfers new, creative ways to play each hole.

Jacques says he is thrilled with the transition, and is excited for golfers to try out the fresh turf.

“From a playing experience, the members and the public are going to have a lot of fun learning these two greens, learning which way the ball breaks, because most people are used to (the old greens),” he said. “From that perspective, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
